Girls' Bible Study Fèt!!!

A fet for the Bible class! Wow! Were the girls ever excited! They were knocking at the gate at 2:30 instead of 3:00. They were all dressed up in their nicest clothes, and ready and willing to do whatever it took to make that feast and get it eaten...even if it meant using a quart of oil or a huge bowl of the ripest mangos or a dozen maggies. Prepared to cook, they tromped into the Haitian cookhouse, and gathered wood for 2 fires. After getting the fires started, they began asking for cooking items. So, in between trying to figure out what they were asking for in our limited Creole vocabulary, we ran for the items and got the chance to watch as they wipped up the food in record time.
While 2 girls sliced cabbage and bits of carrots for coleslaw, the two long-time regulars for the Bible class, Jwatos and Selma, mixed up and cooked a huge Hatian kettle of rice and beans and red sauce. Once that was done, the oil was poured into another kettle, heated until very hot and then banans, patat, and lam were placed in it to deep fat fry.
The delicious smells of fruits frying and rice steaming filled the air soon after they started cooking. Finally, when everything was almost finished, a huge bowl of mangos were placed outside to be peeled, and made into juice for the drink. The comical sight of Jemson, Jwatos's child, as he stuffed a huge mango into his small mouth, made us laugh.
Finally, when all was finished, and everyone had gathered round, we sang some of the well known songs in Creole..."Li la Bib ou, prea chak jou," filled the air as we joyfully lifted our voices in song about God's Word and how we need to pray and read our Bibles to grow in Christ. Then the food was served and as we ate we discussed how at the first Bible class, Selma was asked to pray and timidly replied, "I don't know how to." Well, she was asked to pray again and we all remembered how this had marked the beginning of the first Bible class 3 years before in the month of June. It had been started by Shana and another nurse and Anita has faithfully kept it up every Wednesday afternoon until now. So, when we all had our fill, we happily followed our friends to the gate to wish them a good night and a safe walk home.

House Project Update

Here are some pictures of us hauling material to the house building project for the widow up on mount Fidel. The house just needs the doors, windows and the interior finished and the floor cemented, before she can move into it. I would love to be there to see the thrill in her voice and the honest praises that will be ascending to heaven in thankfulness.
One life at a time, once smile put back in place, one more soul reached for Jesus, what opportunities to bring Him Glory.

We had to stop half way to the project site to move and strap the wood, it didn't want to stay on the gator. Steve blends
right in!!!!!!

This is the "door boss" (His name is, Brucillo.) He lives right beside the mission.
He is building all the doors and windows for the house and putting on the roof
as well.

What? Steve at work! Actually no, he told me it felt like throwing a foot ball ;)

The house they live in now and the new one in the back round.

Looks nice, eh?

View from the top down.

Two of the children playing on the trail, they were laughing pretty hard when I tried taking the short cut up to the main road where the gator was and made a few
tumbles back down again.

Important details.

I'm glad to be back in Allegre after a brief break and rest at home at home in Canada, these are a few scenes I captured this morning as I went about regular duties. Hope you enjoy.

Shana, Alex and Sherry buys in the kitchen!!! Alex is grading bar
soap to make laundry soap while Shana and Cherie are working
on taking garlic cloves apart.

I took a sack of rice up to Pastor Levy's mom's home which is right below the church building, this is what her porch looked like, she had lots of people there shelling corn, praise God for a good harvest.

The picture shows a bit how bright the sun was, very humid and warm, children are sitting cleaning chaff out of the corn above.

Then they spread them on the ground in the hot sun to dry.

A beautiful view from the church building. Mission is hidden in the trees behind those small buildings on the lower left of the picture.

Last evening...

If you were to wander outside last evening, you would have found the ordinary, hum-drum, uninteresting (yet extremely necessary) things going on...

Some activity could be seen going on outside the shop.
Hmmmm, I wonder what this is all about?

Cherie could be seen walking around, searching for her "nook" in the front lane.
(no, this is not a normal occurrence, thankfully)

Back inside the shop, Steve was doing mechanic work.
Since the mechanic left, he's not only doing his normal administrative work,
but also all the vehicle maintenance and repairs-
Yes, that means that he's filling two, full time jobs!!

Last evening he was cleaning off the generator and repairing its exhaust pipe.

Another daunting task he accomplished-
A new, high powered LED light, installed in the bumper of the ambulance.
He had to remove the entire brush-guard and bumper to get it in!

Last, but not least for the ordinary evening events:
Like mother, like daughter.
Cherie was helping Shana deal with some people at the gate :)

Yes, these are the things that normally don't get much attention, that go unnoticed and un-praised.
Yet, without these things being done, the mission couldn't operate!
Not to mention all the other things going on behind the scenes-
Cooking, cleaning, washing, talking, driving, sacrificing... to name a few.

It all works together, glorifying God and enabling us all to work in this mission field, sharing the light of Christ to these people, and helping them in many ways.
